What Is a SIP Calculator?

A SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) calculator estimates the future value of your mutual fund investments made at a fixed monthly amount, based on an assumed annual rate of return. It splits your total maturity value into two parts — the amount you actually invested, and the returns generated on it — so you can see the power of compounding at a glance.

SIP Calculation Formula

The standard SIP future value formula (monthly compounding, investment at the start of each month) is:

FV = P × [ ( (1 + r)n − 1 ) / r ] × (1 + r)

Where P is your monthly investment, r is the monthly rate of return (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100), and n is the total number of monthly installments. This calculator uses a month-by-month compounding method internally, which also lets it handle an annual step-up accurately — something the plain formula above cannot do.

How to Use This SIP Calculator

Move the sliders or type directly into the boxes: enter your monthly investment amount, your expected annual return, and the number of years you plan to stay invested. If you plan to increase your SIP every year, tick "Include annual step-up in SIP" and set the yearly increase percentage. Your invested amount, estimated returns and total maturity value update instantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What return rate should I assume for equity mutual fund SIPs?
There's no guaranteed rate for market-linked investments. Many long-term equity SIP calculators use 10–14% as an illustrative range, but actual returns depend entirely on market performance and fund selection.

What is SIP step-up and why does it matter?
A step-up SIP increases your monthly investment by a fixed percentage every year — usually in line with your rising income. Even a modest annual step-up can meaningfully increase your final corpus compared to a flat monthly SIP.

Is this SIP calculator accurate?
It uses standard month-by-month compounding logic used across the industry. Actual mutual fund returns will vary based on market performance, expense ratio and exit load — this tool is for planning and illustration only.

Can I use this for a lumpsum investment instead?
No — this calculator is built specifically for recurring monthly SIP investments.
